File: 90 KB, 864x350, 6mm Infantry.jpg 6mm wargaming general Anonymous Fri Jan 17 17: Sup/tg/, I've been looking into the large-scale 6mm battle systems lately, and I didn't see a general thread on the catalog, so I decided to start one of my own. Now I haven't actually played any games yet, and own only a few rule sets (Blitzkrieg Commander, FFoTs2 free rules, and Epic 40k), but I have looked at a few battlereps online, and I love the tank warfare dynamic and all. But how much to people actually use infantry? I've only seen one or two platoons of infantry per side in most games, and I don't understand it. Is it because infantry is too fragile? Or is it that Infantry isn't that useful?
BlitzkriegCommander Introduction BlitzkriegCommander is a set of wargame rules that allow you to re-create combined-arms operations of the Second World War and the Spanish Civil War using miniatures on a tabletop. Players each take command of a Battlegroup, which can be anything from a company right up to a division. Blitzkrieg Commander Rulebook Pdf Converter. I have a few ideas for how to make Infantry units more useful in 6mil sci-fi and Cold War scenarios, I just don't know if it's needed, or how to fill in the rules properly. Anonymous Fri Jan 17 17: Bump for 6 mil, anyone here actually played that shit?
I'd be totally down for a game at a scale where you can have actual strategy as well as tactics, if only anyone else would play sob. Anonymous Fri Jan 17 17: File: 165 KB, 1091x865, DefenceLaser.jpg Bumping with some ideas I'd like to bounce off of the folks on /tg/: So, making Infantry more useful in games of 6mm, for me, would be a simple job of including rules for things like Installation pieces on the table. Taking a page out of Warhammer, lets say that there is an Orbital Defense laser on the table: Infantry can capture the thing, and whoever holds it can prevent the enemy from using their Orbital Bombardment assets. In less sci-fi games (such as Blitzkrieg commander and FFoTs2), if you control things like AA guns that are located in a city, or a Radar Tower installation, you'll get extra anti-air coverage for that particular city, and the Radar Tower would give nearby units a +1 to their To Hit rolls when firing weapons.
I'm just curious if any 6 mil veterans actually see these kinds of interactive terrain pieces as being a good or bad thing on the table? Anonymous Fri Jan 17 17: Sounds interesting. The way World In Conflict did it, infantry can be just as powerful as armour (anti-personnel or anti-armour) but die easier, move slower, and can enter buildings (making them a lot harder to kill). Dropzone Commander seems to have used a very similar mechanic.
Anonymous Fri Jan 17 18: But how much to people actually use infantry? I've only seen one or two platoons of infantry per side in most games, and I don't understand it. Is it because infantry is too fragile? Or is it that Infantry isn't that useful? Honestly, it's mostly that microarmor players love their little tanks.
Tanks are why they get into the scale, tanks are what they buy, tanks are what they paint, and tanks are what they enjoy pushing around the table. I play FFT3 and some other games, and use infantry quite heavily, but a lot of older games are designed to focus on tank-porn and bog down in armour thickness and penetration and angles and infantry are barely covered. FFT3's given me plenty of fun infantry-focused games (and fun tank fights, and fun combined arms, and fun with baby nukes.) and Blitzkrieg/Cold War Commander aren't that bad at handling infantry either. I'd personally leave that out of my games, but sure, could be good fun, especially in higher-scale games. I'd model it more as looting armouries and bases you were forced to abandon (neutron bomb killed all the mans, now both armies are heading into town and want that tank battalion's toys?) to generate new units by sending in infantry, rather than 'radar gives you +1!'
Which seems a bit. Not that going for a more gamey approach is bad. You might want to check out some of Brent Spivey's games - OP4S is still in (paid) beta (and more than playable) and it adds a bit of RTS-style play to an SF miniatures wargame. Anonymous Fri Jan 17 18: Infantry are fragile, usually, but if the game's good then you can load up a BUA (which should be in an important area on the map, if your table's laid out well) and create a zone of TANKS EUNT DOMUS and force those fucks to come and grind you out one building at a time while the rest of your forces do whatever.

Important tactics (again, depending on ruleset) often include not parking your dudes on the outskirts so they can shoot out and be shot at, but keeping them in a little so they can threaten to pop out and fuck shit up, but are safe in their little bubble of fuck tanks. Anonymous Fri Jan 17 18: I'll definitely have to look into Cold War Commander and Future war Commander in future. And I understand what you mean, those are just rough ideas for the moment. I was thinking more along the lines of extra weaponry, I'm just trying to think of ways to include this in the less sci-fi games (like Cold War Commander). I could probably solve that by reading on experimental cold war stuff, though. That's how I actually viewed infantry working in the first place at this scale, and I'll definitely work this tactic in when I start gaming in this scale. Anonymous Fri Jan 17 19: Does anyone know any good places to buy 6mm models, preferably ones which deliver to the UK?
I was looking at starting a DBA army and was hoping to get some 6mm models for the purpose of getting started. Game covers like 300 bc to 1500ad or so, but I don't know who I want to use yet. Pdf related - unofficial guide for the game Good luck finding a free copy of the rules Anonymous Fri Jan 17 19: Wargames Emporium do CinC and GHQ models, they also do a variety of others also Ground Zero Games Anonymous Fri Jan 17 19: Three good UK manufacturers spring to mind: Bacchus make awesome miniatures, but they don't cover absolutely everything. Irregular has a larger range, but they aren't quite as nice looking as Bacchus.
Heroics & Ros also has a sizable range, they are inexpensive but a bit on the small side (going by the WW2 minis at least, as I don't own any H&R ancients). Rapier has a small range too, just Greeks, Persians, Hittites and Egyptians, but it is supplemented by some cool fantasy additions (minotaurs, medusae, et cetera). Anonymous Fri Jan 17 19: If you like modern/WW2 then FFT3 or the commander series is the way to go. I find the amount of shots needed to kill something in cold war commander ridiculous so i prefer playing FFT3.
FFT3 lacks ambush rules, but at this scale, you can either set you own by moving right or invent your rules. In both game if you drive your tanks in a town occupied by infantry be prepared to loose them all Anonymous Fri Jan 17 21: I have a fuckton of 6mm Nids (Probably 5-8K pts worth), but nobody nearby to play with.

Plus I like the Epic 40K rules better than Epic: Armageddon, so I'm probably a cunt as well.
